CentraComm has always maintained high standards within our business operations to protect the confidentiality of information provided to us by our customers and their callers. Prior to the April 14, 2003 effective date for the Final Privacy Rule of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996, we undertook an exhaustive review of our procedures to ensure that they were sufficient to appro­priately safeguard our customers' protected health information (PHI).
 
As part of our response to the Privacy Rule requirements, we implemented training procedures to inform both management and all staff of the need to:

  • Utilize or disclose PHI only in accordance with the instructions that we receive from our customer.

  • Maintain appropriate safeguards to prevent unauthorized use or disclosure of PHI. Report promptly to the customer any improper use or disclosure of PHI and impose appropriate sanctions upon anyone responsible.
In addition to the specific HIPAA policies and procedures referenced above, we have a general policy which prohibits employees from using or disclosing any confidential information related to customers, including PHI, in any manner other than as directed by the customer or as provided by law. Any employ­ee who violates this policy is subject to immediate termination.

• HIPAA Training

CentraComm employs an interactive software training program designed to educate our staff on HIPAA requirements. The training program consists of 26 interactive lessons. Each lesson comprises a specific topic with educational material related to that lesson. After reading through each lesson the staff member must complete the associated quiz at 100% accuracy to be able to advance to the next lesson. This format gives our staff the ability to progress through the lessons at their own pace.
 
The management tools associated with the software gives the manager the ability to see exactly where each staff member is in relation to completing their training. Once a staff member has completed and passed all lessons, the software assigns them a certificate of completion which is printed and displayed at their workstation.
